Standing on the roof of the new MGM Grand casino at Foxwoods, South Shore restaurateur and nightclub owner Ed Kane deeply breathes in the fresh air, taking in both the mammoth man-made resort casino complex and the bucolic, wooded skyline surrounding it.
"Wow, look at that," he said with a wave of his arm. "This is huge. It's like the Sahara desert out here," he said, referring to the sandy-colored roof that stretches the length of two, maybe three football fields.
And huge is just what Kane's latest endeavor is -- a 20,000-square-foot Asian-inspired nightclub, lounge and dining venue called Shrine. It opens May 17 at the new $700 million MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
